Lighting solutions that illuminate the world
South Tyrol/Südtirol stands for smart competence, and ewo is an impressive example of what happens when technical know-how, design, and sustainability merge into solutions that are in international demand. The company traces its humble beginnings back to a small workshop in Sarnthein/Sarentino. Today, it is one of the leading producers of outdoor lighting. Lighting solutions made in Kurtatsch/Cortaccia sulla Strada del Vino transform cities, parks, and squares all over the world into meeting places that are worth visiting—a striking example of the innovative power of South Tyrol.
“At the core, the philosophy of ewo is all about empowering wellbeing outdoors”, explains Hannes Wohlgemuth, who has been at the helm of the company since 2019. Founded as a small workshop in Sarnthein in 1980, ewo quickly evolved into an innovative lighting manufacturer. These days, the family-owned company is headquartered in Kurtatsch near Bolzano/Bozen combining modularity, design, and functionality with cutting-edge technology into products used all over the world.
The harmony of technical precision and design
Whether the Postbyen urban development project in Copenhagen or Ascot Park in Brisbane: ewo delivers custom-made, energy-efficient outdoor lighting which provides the right function in the right mood, at the same time helping prevent light pollution. Many places in South Tyrol are illuminated by ewo lighting, too: from downtown Eppan/Appiano sulla Strada del Vino and the Merano/Meran river promenade to the Rungg sports area in Monticolo Forest.
The team at ewo was also quick to realise that lighting technology is nowadays expected to be so much more. Smart lighting and lighting-control software are developed in-house, often complemented by co-operations with internationally renowned designers. Every innovation is guided by the principles of energy efficiency and the protection and preservation of natural spaces and the night sky.
As architect Hannes Wohlgemuth took over as managing director, the company entered into a new phase. Under his leadership, ewo is consistently driving international growth and has proved itself to be a reliable partner for sophisticated projects—from urban town squares to airports and logistic centres. The combination of technical precision, aesthetics, and a sustainable mindset makes ewo a global player firmly rooted in South Tyrol.
