Technologies for perfect snow
Whether at the Winter Olympics, the Ski World Cup, or other major sports events—whenever there is a need for snow, technology from South Tyrol/Südtirol is the logical choice. For decades now, TechnoAlpin has ensured perfect conditions on the slopes and is active in over 50 countries these days, from Alpine ski resorts to mega events in Asia and North America. That makes the company a prime example of the alpine competence of South Tyrol.
Innovation made in South Tyrol
It all began in the year 1983. After a few winters with little snow, Walter Rieder and Georg Eisath from Obereggen/Sopra Ega developed the prototype of a snowmaking system which was perfectly tailored to the climate conditions south of the main Alpine ridge. In 1990, that project became the company TechnoAlpin, based in Bolzano/Bozen, which positioned itself as the world’s leading producer of innovative snowmaking systems within just a few decades.
“Our systems have provided guaranteed snow for many Alpine, Nordic, or Biathlon World Cups in the past. And the majority of the systems for the 2026 Olympics were also provided by us, for example in Antholz/Anterselva”, explains Erich Gummerer, managing director of TechnoAlpin.

Alpine competence at the world’s greatest winter sports events
For decades, TechnoAlpin has been a partner of the world’s major winter sports events: the Olympics in Sochi (2014), Pyeongchang (2018), and Beijing (2022)—the latter being the first-ever to be held exclusively on artificial snow—as well as various World Championships in all disciplines. Worldwide, more than 700 people work on guaranteeing perfect snow. With 17 subsidiaries in 14 countries, the company is never too far from its international customers, highlighting its global presence.
More than 115 international patents—with more than half of those directly related to sustainability—bear testament to TechnoAlpin’s innovative power. The systems’ energy supply comes increasingly from renewable sources.
With its headquarters in Bolzano, strong research activities, and an international team, TechnoAlpin represents an alpine competence famous far beyond the borders of South Tyrol—making it snow all over the world.
